Taco Time Race Reimbursement Guide

Purposes of this document:

One of the primary requirements for Taco Time racing members is to race in 10 races and two volunteer events per racing season (November 1-October 31), both to remain in good standing with the team and to be eligible for annual kit reimbursement. 15 races in a racing season, plus two volunteer events, is the requirement for a member to be eligible for partial race reimbursement. This document defines guidelines around what events qualify as a race and how to submit races to be counted.

What is a race?:

For the purposes of reporting and reimbursement, a race must meet the following criteria:

  1. It must be an organized, competitive cycling event featuring a clearly defined start and finish.
    1. Events such as road races, criteriums, time trials, cyclocross races, mountain bike races, gravel races, and triathlons are eligible to qualify as races under this definition.
    2. Excluded events include events such as charity rides, virtual rides/races, or recreational fun rides.
  2. The event must then meet two of the three qualifying criteria:
    1. The race must have a winner, stated by the event organizers.
    2. The race must record and publish finishing places.
    3. The race must be timed and have time results published.

Some types of races may include multiple sessions or races, making the question of “how many races does this count as?” complicated. The following rules apply to races, provided they also meet the qualifying criteria above:

  1. Track Racing: Track racing sessions shall be considered one race per event registration, as they culminate in a single set of official results and a single podium. This means that single race nights will usually count as one race, since registration is together in one fee.
  2. Multiple races in the same day: different fields of the same race (for instance, racing the 5:30 and 6 Seward races, Cat 4 and Masters Cat 4 at a cyclocross event, or Pacific Raceways races on the same night) count as distinct races provided registration has a separate fee for each event or field.
    1. Stage races or events with multiple days of racing are exempt from the requirement that each race have its own fee and registration: see below.
  3. Stage Races: Stage races shall be considered one race per stage. Each stage has its own start, finish, official results, and podium, and therefore each stage shall be treated as a distinct race. General Classification or overall results should be reported to the team, but do not count as a distinct race for the purposes of races per year requirements.
    1. This definition includes multiday mountain bike races.
  4. Multisport Events: Multisport events such as triathlons shall be considered as one race, as they consist of one overall start and finish and one set of final results and podium.
